Done In A Day
In addition to its on-going community projects and grants, the Junior League of Pittsburgh undertakes two to four projects during each month of the League year that are "Done In A Day." For each Done In A Day project, a group of Junior League members assists a local nonprofit organization or social service agency through hands-on volunteer work. While our members spend much of our time working to fight childhood hunger, we will also spend a portion of our time on other projects that allow us to get to know the work of another organization. We often assist with a special event, or help with cleaning, painting or gardening to hellp launch or support a program.
In undertaking these Done In a Day projects, the Junior League attempts to provide immediate volunteer assistance to Pittsburgh area organizations and meaningful learning opportunities for its members. By doing so, the League also attempts to assess community needs and learn more about the nonprofit and social service organizations that could benefit from greater League assistance in the form of grants, training or community partnerships.
Community organizations that have benefited from recent Done In A Day assistance include:
- Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank
- Global Links
Children's Museum of Pittsburgh
- Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera
- Allegheny County Medical Society Foundation
- Family House
- Soujourner House
- Highmark Caring Place
- Just Harvest
- United Way
The Junior League of Pittsburgh also attempts to provide Done In A Day assistance to organizations that have benefited from past League community projects and grants or organizations that serve needs related to the League's current community projects.
