Past Fundraising Events

Touch-A-Truck

The Junior League of Pittsburgh’s Touch-a-Truck events were a great way for kids to learn about different types of vehicles and meet the people who operate them. The events were also a lot of fun for the whole family.

In addition to the vehicles, there were other fun activities at the Touch-a-Truck events, such as face painting, games, and food trucks. The events were a great way for kids to get out and explore, and they also support a good cause.

The Junior League of Pittsburgh is an organization of women who are committed to making a difference in the community. Through their volunteerism and fundraising efforts, the League is working to address a variety of issues, including food insecurity. The proceeds from the JLPs Touch-a-Truck events helped the League to continue its important work.

Designers’ Show House

The Junior League of Pittsburgh joined forces with Pittsburgh-area designers to transform a house into a designers’ showcase. The most recent event featured a historic mansion in Wilkinsburg, which was opened for public tours in May 2018.

Wear After Shop

JUNIOR LEAGUE OF PITTSBURGH ANNOUNCES CLOSURE OF “WEAR AFTER SHOP” PITTSBURGH, PA – The Junior League of Pittsburgh, Inc. has made the difficult decision to close its year-round fundraiser, The Wear After Shop, on November 21, 2015. For 90 years the resale shop has generated funds to support the League’s mission and has filled a community need to provide good quality clothing and housewares at an affordable price.

The Wear After Shop opened its doors at 5427 Penn Avenue on October 14, 1925. The Wear After Shop moved twice before finding a home at 4752 Liberty Avenue and has been a part of the Bloomfield community for the past 45 years.

This decision was not made lightly. For the past five years, the Board of Directors and special committees studied the issues and implemented various initiatives aimed at increasing the net profit. The League’s decision to close the Wear After Shop was primarily a financial one.

Although this will come as a loss to our loyal customers and the Bloomfield community, it also comes as an opportunity for the League to use its resources to make a more meaningful impact. In particular, the League is initiating work to secure food access for households living below the poverty line in the East End of Pittsburgh.

The League is extremely proud of its dedicated volunteers who have over the years established, grown, and supported the Wear After Shop. The League thanks its customers, staff, and the community for their invaluable support. Our long-standing partners include Carl W. Herrmann Furs, the Alliance of Nonprofit Stores, and the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh. League members and friends have donated all the Shop’s inventory.

As part of the League’s community mission, the Shop partnered with the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh and provided clothing at no charge to the program’s participants. During the League’s 2013-2014 year, the Shop donated more then $5000 in clothing to more than 90 women and 50 children in the program.  Please visit the Center’s website for more information on its important mission to end domestic violence in the lives of women and their children.

Alliance of Nonprofit Stores (ANS)

In 2004, the Shop partnered with other nonprofit charitable agencies in western Pennsylvania to form a collaborative effort called the Alliance of Nonprofit Stores. The Alliance has a two-fold mission.  First, the Alliance hopes to make a proactive, positive impact on the way local consumers think about donating goods for resale by educating them on responsible donation practices.  The Alliance also endorses charitable giving to nonprofit outlets that use proceeds from retail sales to benefit community programs.

Visit the Alliance’s website for more information on ANS and its other partners.
